Passports and Visas
Visitors to Hong Kong require passports (with at least six months' validity).
British nationals can stay for up to six months without a visa, whilst nationals of Commonwealth countries, such as British Dependent Territories and most Western European countries, can stay for three months without a visa.
Nationals of the US, Germany, the Republic of South Africa and most South American countries do not require a visa for stays of one month or less.
Visa extensions can be applied for under special circumstances. Applications should be made to the Hong Kong Immigration Department, telephone +852 2824 6111.
A travel permit is required by all non-Chinese nationals wishing to visit certain parts of the People's Republic of China. Applications should be made to the entry and exit office of the nearest security bureau.
Customs
Although Hong Kong is a duty-free port, duty is charged on certain imports such as cigarettes and alcohol.
However, there are few restrictions on the amount of items that can be brought into the country, and the following amounts may be imported duty-free:

All visitors should have private medical insurance in place and sufficient insurance to cover repatriation costs should the need arise.
